Blog 1
As we read The Illiad ans The Odyssey, and learned about Xenia and how important that was to the God's and how important it was to the Greek lifestyle, I never really thought much about how it could apply to our lives today. In this day and age it just completely seemed unreasonable to just welcome any old person into our home and basically give them access to everything we have. Then when I read the scriptures assigned for Tuesday's class, Matthew 25: 35-46, as soon as I read "For I was an hungred, and yea gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in." - Matthew 25:35, the first thing I thought of was Odysseus travelling on his way home, counting on the good Xenia of strangers to get him through it. I found that quite interesting because it never occured to me in the opposite respect. As I was reading The Odyssey, I never thought of this scripture, and never realized how similar that was to the way the Greek God's were.
